"It's important to understand that anxiety is not bad or toxic. We can't stop anxiety. It's unpleasant, and if we don't attend to it properly, it can harm our health. But it's not anxiety that's the problem, it's how we respond to it that can cause us harm.

We can become anxious about being anxious and can get caught up in a spiral of increasing anxiety. But the only way to make it go away is to face it. To face anxiety is to say, "Anxiety is there, and I'm going to allow myself to experience it and feel its unpleasant sensations as much as I can tolerate, because the only way to heal anxiety is to go through it. By not resisting anxiety, we make room for it to pass away and for a sense of calm to return. Accept it and allow it to be there."
