Has it been more than 1/2 a year since I came back from Adelaide??? :-(
26 October (Monday)
26 October (Monday)
Went out alone for the first time (i think) that day and it was really nice :-)
Decided to treat myself to an avocado cream cheese sushi roll since it was my last week there weh weh
Went to work/school afterwards to meet my supervisor, Rebecca, to follow her to a home visit!!! Can't remember if I mentioned this before, but Becs does her PhD project with adults w/ Autism Spectrum Disorder. Sometimes she gets these adults to participate in her research study at the university itself, but sometimes she goes to their homes instead.
When I got assigned to Becs, I was really looking forward to accompanying her on these home visits because it really isn't something I get to do in poly!!!!!!!!!!!
It was an hour (or more) drive there but Becs dropped at a bakery first because we both love bread :-))))
This is a finger bun that Becs bought for me!!!
omg this looks very unassuming & i don't even like dried fruit (think raisins, cranberries etc) in bread but this was wonderful :') ahhhh i love Becs and Australians, they're all such lovely people (♡˙︶˙♡)
Finally reached after an 1.5 hour drive!!!!!!!!!!!!
At the home visit, I was allowed to do my own work while the participant does Becs' study so I just did all my data entry hahaha
On the drive back with Becs again :-)
Before we left the university to drive to the home, I took out my earphones to listen to music on the way there. But little did I know, Becs would spend the entire 3 hours ride to & fro talking to me :-)))))) It wasn't even awkward at all and we talked about almost everything: from the differences between Singapore & Adelaide, to Aussie slangs and our common love for carbs.
Even though I only managed to go on 1 home visit during the 6 weeks there, I'm just really really really thankful that I got a chance to do so. It's very eye-opening to see how psychology research projects are being conducted outside of the classroom and I'm just super thankful la ;_;
Dropped off at the tram station and literally travelled from one end to another end of the tram station line HAHA
For dinner, I ate a beef pie that Kevin bought for all of us a few days ago when he went on his home visit with Becs LOL
very random picture of our (andria & I) room BECAUSE WE FINALLY GOT OUR LIGHT FIXED OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it broke like twice during our 6 weeks there and to finally have light is such a joy ヽ(・∀・)ノ
27 October (Tuesday)
have I mentioned how much I love our university office pantry????????? food is ridics expensive here so yay for hot homecooked food
Followed Becs again for another ~*~interesting experience~*~
This time, it was to sit in during one of the biweekly social skills training groups that she conducts (mainly) for adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorder!!
One of the games we played with the youths who came :-)
Like we basically ask a person of our choice a question we chose (from the list Becs prepared), and then we take a piece of string and pass them the remaining ball of strings after they've answered the question. It is then their turn to ask another person a question etc and so on. As more people answer and ask questions, more string is strung around the room and our final product is this HUGE web of string (^^^ in pic)!!!
The moral of this game is just to show that everyone has a part to play in any social situation (as represented by the strings) so it's a pretty nice reminder to us and the youths :-)
Writing this post more than 1/2 a year later has its consequences.......... because this is one of the Singaporean students I met in Adelaide BUT I FORGOT HER NAME ;_;
She was from NUS and is now doing her final year project or something under Dr Robyn (my other supervisor). We only managed to see each other like twice: once in the university & second at the training group but I hope she's doing well :-)))
